Counselling

If you have a specific problem and need help taking the steps to address or solve it, you may choose to use the therapy space in a subject specific and / time limited way.

Problems are discussed in the present-tense, without too much attention on the role of past experiences. You will be guided to discover your own answers and will be supported in taking the actions you choose to take.

It is not so important to choose between counselling, psychotherapy or Dance Movement Psychotherapy as there is crossover.  Central to my way of working is empathic listening, a non-judgemental attitude, compassion, belief in paying attention to the embodied experience and that opening to creativity helps us to access that which has been lost in our personalities and lives.  I see myself as walking with you as you in this process.

Initial Assessment

When you contact me, we arrange an assessment session where we can both decide if it seems as if sessions with me could be useful for you.  If we go ahead and decided that counselling is for you, your specific issue, hopes and goals will be agreed at the following 1st session.

The initial assessment sesssion allows you to see if I am the right person for you and to give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about me and the process of therapy. At the same time, this gives me the opportunity to find out more about you and what problem you are struggling with.

There is absolutely no obligation to continue after the initial session.

What happens in a session?

Sessions last for one hour at a time.

We address whatever you bring to the session, verbally and non-verbally, mindful of your focus for these sessions.

Confidentiality is an important aspect in allowing there to be openness in the sessions.  I am bound by both ADMP and UKCP’s codes of ethics and my Licence to Practice is renewed yearly.

Number of sessions

This is something which is discussed at the initial sessions and reviewed on a regular basis.  The length of time needed is very individual and dependent on your goals.

An agreement will be made as to the frequency of sessions

Fees

Each session costs £70, payable after each session by bank transfer, cash or cheque.

If you are registered with a Healthcare Insurer, you may be able to get your sessions paid by them. You will need to contact your GP or Psychiatrist so they can make a referral to your chosen provider. I will require your pre-authorisation number at the first session with you.
